How to set a fair prize pool

Start from what players will pay. Entry fee times teams gives the total collected; subtract your costs or fee and the rest is the prize pool. Publish the split before registrations open, so every team knows what they're playing for.

Choosing a split

Small brackets of 8–16 teams usually pay the top two or three. Fields of 25 or more often pay the top five, which keeps mid-table teams invested until the end. Whatever you choose, keep each place clearly ahead of the next.

Running it without the spreadsheet

On HangOn, organisers and gaming cafés set the entry fee and prize split when they create a tournament; players register and pay in the app. Read our guide on how to host a BGMI tournament, or name your team with the team name generator.

Frequently asked questions

How should I split a tournament prize pool?+

A common split for small tournaments is 50/30/20 across the top three. Bigger fields often reward the top five or more so more teams have something to play for. Keep the winner's share clearly bigger so the final matters.

How is the prize pool calculated?+

Prize pool = entry fee × number of teams, minus any organiser or platform fee. This calculator shows both the total collected and what's left to distribute.

Should prize money be split between team members?+

Usually the team decides, but announcing the per-player share up front avoids arguments. Divide each team's prize by its roster size to show it.
