VR Gaming Near You: What to Expect at a VR Arcade

Team HangOn·27 Mar 2026·5 min read

Virtual reality is one of the most asked-about experiences at gaming venues — and one of the most misunderstood. Here's what a VR session actually involves and how to enjoy your first one.

How a VR session works

Staff fit the headset, adjust the straps and hand you two motion controllers. You'll play in a cleared space, often with a staff member nearby to guide you and make sure you don't walk into a wall. Sessions are usually shorter than PC sessions and often priced per session.

Good first games

  • Rhythm games like Beat Saber — easy to learn, great workout.
  • Casual shooters and arcades — short rounds, lots of action.
  • Experiences and roller coasters — try these once you know how you handle motion.

Tips for first-timers

  • Start with 15–20 minutes. Take a break if you feel dizzy.
  • Tell staff if you wear glasses — most headsets fit over them.
  • Wear comfortable clothes you can move in.
  • Play standing games before games with smooth movement, which can cause motion sickness.
