The Best Stream Deck Layout for Beginners
Team HangOn·22 Oct 2026·4 min read
A stream deck with too many keys is as bad as none. Start with a small layout you can use without looking, and add keys only when you miss them.
A 3 × 5 starter layout
- Top row (scenes): Starting soon, Gameplay, Just Chatting, BRB, Ending.
- Middle row (audio): Mic mute, Desktop audio mute, Music play/pause, Volume down, Volume up.
- Bottom row (actions): Start/stop stream, Start/stop recording, Clip or replay, Open chat, Screenshot.
Rules that help
- Put mic mute in the same place on every deck.
- Use colour: red for anything live, like stream and record.
- Keep destructive actions (end stream) away from the keys you press often.
You can build this on your phone for free with Deckon, on Windows, Mac or Linux.
