How to Join Your First Esports Tournament in India

Team HangOn·7 Mar 2026·6 min read

You don't need to be a pro to play in a tournament. Most tournaments in India are open to anyone with a team and a few free hours. Here's how to enter your first one without surprises.

1. Find a tournament at your level

Start with free or low-entry tournaments. On HangOn every tournament shows its entry fee, prize pool, team size and how many slots are left before you register.

2. Read the rules before you register

  • Format: knockout, round-robin, or points-based (common for battle royale).
  • Team size and substitutes.
  • Device rules: phone only, emulators allowed or not, PC specs.
  • Check-in time — miss it and you're usually disqualified.

3. Get your team sorted

Register everyone's in-game names correctly. Missing a teammate? Find one with the squad finder.

4. On match day

  • Check in early.
  • Test your connection with the ping test.
  • Screenshot results — you may need them for disputes.
  • Stay polite in chat; organisers remember teams.

5. If you win

Prizes are paid to the winners' accounts after results are verified. Tax may apply to winnings — see our guide to how esports prize money works in India.
