First Time at a Gaming Café? Here's Exactly What to Expect
If you've never been to a gaming café, the first visit can feel confusing — do you need your own account, can you bring your controller, how is time counted? This guide walks you through the whole visit so you can walk in knowing exactly what happens.
Before you go
- Book a slot, especially for evenings and weekends. On HangOn you pick the station and time and pay in the app.
- Check the station — PC, PS5, Xbox, VR or sim — has the game you want.
- Know your logins. Keep your Steam, Epic, Riot, PlayStation or Xbox account details ready.
When you arrive
Show your booking at the counter. With HangOn, the staff scan your QR code and you're checked in. They'll point you to your station and start the timer — usually from when you sit down, not from when your slot started, but ask.
Logging into your games
Most cafés have popular games installed. For PC games tied to your account, you log in to your own launcher so your progress and skins carry over. On consoles you can often play on the café's account or sign into yours. Always log out before you leave — this matters more than anything else on this list.
What to bring
- Your own headset or mouse if you're particular (many players are).
- A charger if you'll use your phone for voice chat.
- Some cash or UPI for snacks and extensions.
Basic etiquette
Keep voice at a reasonable level, don't eat over the keyboard, and hand the station back on time. Our gaming café etiquette guide covers the unwritten rules.
